The Big Reason To Avoid Apple's Time Capsule

Topics: , , , , ,

We were looking into a file backup solution that would allow us to save our files (movies, mp3s, pictures) for a long period in order to not worry about hard drive crashes. Since we are an Apple household, we thought to look into the company’s Time Capsule. It offers “server-grade” hard drives and up to 2 terabytes of storage. Throw in the wireless synching and sharing as well as the 802.11n wi-fi and it sounds great! Right?

Wrong. After just a couple minutes of research, we have found out that most Time Capsules last just 18 months due to a faulty internal power supply. This is obviously only affecting the first generation of Time Capsules but there is no mention that the 2nd gen products have been fixed. We won’t know for a few more months, I guess.

Need proof that the Time Capsule is not worth investing in? We’re Appleophiles but this website really put the nail in the coffin. Pun intended.
