Have you had an absurd amount of snow days lately? Schools in Monroe, Connecticut sure have. The school system has had so many they have actually decided to cancel the annual February vacation.
Superintendent Colleen Palmer announced Monday “these have been and continue to be unprecedented times of turbulent weather,” Palmer said in a press release. “Due to the school days already lost and the shortened school days, the degree of disruption to our students’ learning has been profound. Therefore, the Monroe Board of Education and I agree that it is in the best interests of our students to cancel our February recess.”
Palmer said she and the board know many families have already made plans, but “we believe strongly that the instructional needs of students come first.”
If families have vacation plans they cannot change, those students will be given class work to complete while they are away, Palmer said. Those absences will be excused and will not affect class standings, she added. ¨
