The Big Change To Facebook's Like Button

There’s always been a nice option on most websites to either ‘Like’ an article or ‘Share’ an article via Facebook. When you liked something, it showed up as a smaller link in your feed. But when you shared something, it pulled in a thumbnail, excerpt, and more into your feed. That’s all about to change.

Facebook is essentially replacing the ‘Share’ buttons with the all-powerful ‘Like’ button. Now, when you click ‘Like’ you will see a story in your Facebook feed just as if you clicked the bigger ‘Share’ button. You’ll also be given an option to comment on the story link.

For purposes of illustration, these are the two different buttons I’m talking about:

Facebook Spokeswoman Malorie Lucich told Mashable that while the company will continue to support the Share button, Like is the “recommended solution moving forward.” However, Lucich today called it a test, saying “We’re always testing new products that incorporate developer feedback as we work to improve the Platform experience, and have no details to share at this time.” It’s unlikely that the change is just a test, however. Typically such tests from Facebook only affect a small number of users, whereas this change affects all Like buttons. (image source)
