How To Become A Certified Virtual Classroom Teacher

Cisco has just announced a new certification that lets you show off just how amazing you are as an online teacher. If you’ve ever run a virtual class (chances are good as this snow is causing the need for some serious consideration of holding classes online) then you probably want as many tips and tricks as possible.

Never fear, the networking giant Cisco is to the rescue. They’ve developed a somewhat expensive certification that not only educates you on best practices but also gives you something to prove your know-how on and offline: certification. Here’s a bit about the reasons for the creation of this certification and how it works courtesy of Cisco (pdf):

Why A Certification?

Today’s colleges and universities face growing pressures to:

  • Maintain the highest academic standards in an increasingly competitive environment, both locally and globally
  • Differentiate themselves from other institutions through state-of-the-art technologies and communication tools, as well as exceptional curricula
  • Compete for top faculty by improving instructional and scheduling flexibility
  • Continue giving students access to outstanding faculty in the face of global instructor shortages
  • Extend classroom learning and collaboration to students and faculty off campus
  • Offer new and unique learning opportunities beyond what has traditionally been available on campus

Availability:

  • The multiple-choice LVCI exam (642-132 LVCI) will be available Feb. 7, 2011, at Pearson VUE Testing Centers at a price of $150.
  • The practical LVCI demonstration exam (642-133 LVCIP) will be available in mid-March 2011 and will be administered through Pearson VUE.
  • Registration for LVCI virtual training will be available Feb. 7, 2011, on the Cisco Learning Network at a price of $1,395 USD.
