Some teachers embrace technology and social media. Others lurk. Many ignore. So what does the average teacher do if they’re somewhere in the middle? Why, use the handy infographic from Online Colleges of course!

Below you’ll see a guide to who is using social media (pretty much everyone is aware of it) to which actual social networks they prefer.

Surprising Info

  • Most teachers don’t use Twitter. They opt for Facebook and YouTube by a large amount
  • LinkedIn is preferred over both wikis and Twitter
  • Just about every social network can play a pivotal role in education, so it’s time to start learning about all of them!

Why can I not find a link to email this to our principal??

    • Just added that in as it was missing for some reason. You should be able to click the ‘email’ button on the left side of the page in the floating share buttons. Hope that helps!

        Jeff:

I must be missing something. What are “floating share buttons”? I see at the top of the article there are links for Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and Twitter, but I don’t see an email link and I don’t know what “floating share buttons” are. I’ve wanted to forward other edudemic articles to my principal, too, but I don’t see an email link.

I love the info you guys cover!

I see where there seems to be an email link within the “stumble upon” icon. I’ve not used stumble upon, it that how I need to email it?

  • Nice infographic! I think social media is essential, especially for college professors. If anything, it just opens up another channel of communication from students to teachers. The only downside, is that when a teacher opens up these mediums, it can be harder to manage responses in a timely manner.

I wish you could provide a vector based pdf for such infograms so we can print them as posters for our department

    • Sadly we can’t do vector-based but I could make it into a PDF if you’d like!

  • I would appreciate a PDF – thank you.

  • I’m a member of the League of Women Voters and want to encourage local high schools to use social media more to gain knowledge of the election process this November. Of course, none have any $$$, so your ideas are welcome. Can most of these be used at the high school level? And cheaply?

Jeff, this was terrifically interesting and helpful.

Can you re-post the email link? It seems to still not be available . . . in the floating “share” buttons.

    Thanks!

great content…i shared this to my students at Educational Psychology facebook group. Thanks.

  • PDF is now available!

  • I will use this as an immediate reference on my post so that I can easily flip to the best direction among the 25 while applying my career through the web. I am a graphic organizers addict in my life. This one is really my favorite. The moment I see this infographic I have pointed to the “Key”, then “teaching”, and gone to all destinies of green line that clearly prioritized 9 core ways of teaching for me, that enable to integrate the skills in word press, you tube, twitter and face book.
    Thanks the Online Colleges!
