You probably saw the title of this post and thought ‘okay there’s no friggin’ way he’s going to assemble a list of the best 50,000 education apps. But thanks to a partnership between Edudemic and FindTheBest, we’ve done just that. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to build a robust directory of, as of this writing, about 56,000 education apps.

But it’s not just a list… it’s a finely tuned directory capable of sorting out all the apps in ways not even available in the iTunes or Mac App stores. For example, you can now find out the average price of all education apps to see where your app falls. (Hint: the average price of an education app is $2.66)

How It Works

  • Head over to apps.edudemic.com and start exploring
  • Use the powerful search engine to find new and exciting education apps
  • Narrow down your results by age and content rating
  • Sort results based on which product you have (iPad 1, iPod Touch 3rd Generation, etc)
  • Adjust results based on price with the simple slider
  • Filter results based on the size of each app download
  • Write a review and read other reviews
  • Add a listing! You don’t need to be the creator of an app if you see it’s missing. Just add it in so others can see and hear about it.
  • View related apps you may also like.
  • Login with Facebook to get personalized results (sorta like Apple’s Genius tool)
  • Embed the directory in your own blog or website with a simple embed code
  • More features coming soon!

Note: there are literally tens of thousands of apps in this directory and some are better than others. Be sure to use the filtering tools to find what you’re looking for!

  • You mention the Android Store and android is listed as a tag but the list doesn’t contain android apps? Is there an android equivalent?

And what about apps for Android?

  • Great idea, but there doesn’t seem to be any filter for teacher-centric apps. Looks like it’s designed with only students in mind. It’s not realistic for me to ask students to install education apps, as our demographic and school philosophy (ESL Vietnam) are incompatible with the concept of smartphones & iOS devices at school, however I’m particularly interested in what apps I can use personally to facilitate teaching and student management.

    • Hey Stephen, we’re definitely working on improving the directory and want to make it a great tool for both teachers and students alike. Thanks for the input, it’s great!

  • Google Apps is available in a number of distinct editions. Each edition has a limit on the number of users that may be active at any given time.
