If you’ve ever wanted to spice up your presentation with a free web 2.0 tool, you’re in luck. Presentation tool Prezi has just unveiled some new information that may cause you to start thinking about trying it out.
Prezi, a free interactive presentation creation tool, has just added a couple new features that will be really fun for teachers to try out when they head back to class. Prezi also announced some other fun news that’s worth knowing about. It’s all wrapped up in nice, easy-to-digest bits below:
1) 3-D Prezis
Time to make your presentations pop like the world of Na’vi in Avatar. Prezi now lets you create 3-D backgrounds for any presentation. I tried it out as soon as the feature was announced and felt that it was innovative but a bit distracting. Be sure to not go too overboard with your 3-D options. Subtle backgrounds are your friend when you’re trying to keep focus on the actual content of your presentation.
2) Fade-In Animations
Here’s a nifty feature that Prezi has been lacking for quite awhile. You can now opt to have your content fade in on command. You can do this in PowerPoint and Keynote but not until now on Prezi. This simple but useful feature will be great for posing a question in a ‘slide’ and then zooming over to a blank screen that will reveal the answer once you think the students are ready to see it.
3) Screen Blackout
Want to keep your audience focused on you and not your Prezi? You can now press the ‘B’ key during your presentation and temporarily black out your screen. Great for classrooms of any kind.
4) Get Professional Prezis
Short on time but long on ideas? You can now hire professional Prezi designer ‘Experts’ and have them whip you up an elaborate Prezi that showcases what you wish you had time to do yourself. Prezi may be a simple tool to use but, like any good thing, it takes a long time to get it just right. The Prezi ‘Experts’ sound like a good option for perhaps someone who has to make a very important and elaborate presentation and is not totally sure how great their presentation is going to be (in terms of slides, you’ll do great I’m sure!)
5) Prezi Wants College Ambassadors
In its effort to continually tap into the education world, Prezi is bringing on a few college student ambassadors to help them spread the word about Prezi on their campus. If you’re a college student and fan of Prezi, it can’t hurt to apply. There are 5 open spots remaining as of this writing. You’ll get college credit (where applicable), real world experience, and a sweet EDU Pro license for Prezi.
