There’s likely a new iPad getting unveiled in the very near future. Like, in the next couple of weeks kinda near future. What better time to take a step back and figure out how to actually use these devices in your classroom?

There’s more to the iPad than just apps. Just ask the always incredible Tom Barrett, creator of the below presentation.

Some of my favorites from the presentation (use the bottom left arrows to advance and go back) are below. What are your favorite ways to use the iPad in the classroom? Do they actually make a difference?

My Personal Favorites

  • Practicing letter formations (Slide #6)
  • Project using GoodReader (Slide #10)
  • Control your classroom computer (Slide #13)
  • Turn it into a mini IWB (Slide #18)
  • Evernote! (Slide #25)
  • Dropbox! (Slide #38)
  • Use as a textbook! (Slide #48)
  • Make your own visualizer (Slide #85)
  • iBooks 2 – enough said (Slide #95)

  • Thanks for not just re-posting another slideshare list. Thanks for adding some value with your personal favorites. Any practices of your own to add?

    • I’ve seen the real issue being the NUMBER of iPads you’re using in the classroom. For example, you can actually do better with 1 iPad for every 3-4 students. It facilitates group work and interaction on a digital and personal level. Plus, it’s cheaper :-)

These look like some good apps.

    Where are numbers 1 – 22?

  • This site does not fully work on my iPad. Grrr. I can’t see any of the slides.

  • Loved the presentation. Would wonder if you would find my app, Kids Writing Pad, useful — here are a few promo codes for anyone interested http://appcod.es/kids-writing-pad — Basically it is a slate with lined paper/grid paper/etc. — Lots of standard handwriting/penmanship papers to choose from and I would love to add any futher suggested papers.

What a great post. Thank you for all of your ideas, and for making them so broad! You’ve got many different ages and curricular areas here. I also appreciate your descriptions of how you use your ideas instead of just explaining what each app does.

  • Great presentation – so much is possible! As a provider language learning Apps on the iPad, we feel that the iPad will change education and learning forever making it affordable, remove waste and make it ultra effective. The economic impact is simply huge.

I need the presentation for a session I’m running on Friday 18th of January and it’s not loading in any of my browsers. Can anyone help?
