The big focus right now is on how to make students better learners. In order to do that, you have to understand where babies come from. I’m not talking about birds-and-bees, instead I think it’s important to know exactly how a brain forms, how synapses work, and what babies are using their brains for.

Turns out, a baby’s brain dramatically expands during the first year of life. It doubles in size. However, the number of neurons in that brain number about 100 billion (with a b). That’s the same number of neurons the brain will have for the rest of its life.

So it’s all about figuring out how to best enhance, grow, and inform the brain. This fascinating infographic spells out some surprising and noteworthy facts and figures you should know about how the brain grows.

  • Actually, walking very early is can be an indicator or a reading DISABILITY later in life. My oldest son walked at 8 months and does not read well, though his intelligence is not affected in the least. Just thought I’d pass that on…per the numerous doctors we saw for reading/dyslexia help.
