Don’t discount the brick and mortar college in 2020. While it is true that the college/classroom that we are familiar with is no longer relevant for students, it isn’t necessarily the case that the classroom experience will be deleted, it is more that the classroom experience will look vastly different. Think more along the lines of highly interactive labs. Already, universities like MIT and Harvard are transitioning their freshman and sophomore courses to this more “highly interactive” classroom experience. Do expect a transition to digital courseware, don’t expect the demise of the brick and mortar college.
This is a very interesting set of graphics. However, in reality, I think that there will be an important similarity between education in 2020 and education today. The learning process will have to be shaped so that students can effectively master the learning objectives. While new technologies will enable content to be presented in different ways and students to interact with this content in new ways, the best teachers and educational curricula are already incorporating these innovative practices.
