We’ve been watching ClassBadges evolve over the past several months. Way back in October, we wrote about the site that lets you create badges for your students as you set out on your quest to gamify your classroom. Whatever your goal is (improve engagement, increase activity, incentivize learning, etc.) – ClassBadges looked like one of the best options.
As of today, they now have custom gamification badges available. So if you’re halfway decent at graphic design, this is a great bit of news for you. In fact, the custom badges feature could be a fun way to get your students involved in actually deciding and creating the badges in the first place. You could put students in charge of coming up with their own badge system (the artwork, the design, the value of each badge, etc.) and then upload them on ClassBadges.

It took me a couple weeks to finally get my invitation to ClassBadges so it may take you a similarly long time. I’m hoping they’re a bit quicker these days and that you can sign up for the site and get started with a bit more ease. Let me know how long it takes you and feel free to share your badges with the Edudemic audience down in the comments!
How To Use Custom Class Badges
- After logging into ClassBadges (it may take awhile to get confirmation), create a course.
- Now click on Add Badge (a screenshot of this screen is below in case you can’t log in yet)
- Fill out the forms and then click on Select Badge Art’ (you can either choose a pre-made badge or upload your own.) Make sure your image is at least 180 pixels both wide and tall. You can upload up to 50 images, each image is private and will not be available to any other teacher.
- Click upload and select the artwork. Should be all set now!
